Scan tool showing Honda Vezel fault 121-11 VSA Solenoid Valve Malfunction
Guide

Honda VSA Solenoid Valve Malfunction (121-11)

One of the most common Honda ABS faults we see: what the code means and why so many warning lights come on at once.

By The ECU Clinic · 14 Oct 2026

VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist) is Honda’s name for its stability control system. On Honda cars, the ABS and VSA share one unit in the engine bay, often called the VSA modulator: a hydraulic block with solenoid valves, a pump motor and an electronic control module.

When the scan tool shows 121-11 “VSA Solenoid Valve Malfunction”, the car has found a fault with the valves in that unit. It is one of the Honda ABS faults we handle most often, including on the Honda Vezel.

Why so many warning lights come on

Other systems in the car take information from the VSA unit. When it has a fault, they can log their own codes too. On the Vezel in the photo above, the scan showed:

  • 121-11 VSA Solenoid Valve Malfunction (ABS)
  • 83-141 Electric Parking Brake System Malfunction (ABS)
  • U0416-68 VSA System Malfunction (electric power steering)

On the dashboard this can show up as the ABS, VSA, brake and parking brake lights together, and on cars with Honda Sensing, driver assistance warnings as well. The cause is often the single VSA unit, not several separate faults.

Is it safe to drive?

Normal braking usually still works, but anti-lock braking and stability control can be switched off. If the red brake light is on or the brake pedal feels different, stop driving and get the car checked.

How it is fixed

We read all the codes first, to confirm the fault is in the VSA unit and not in a sensor or wiring. Then we repair the unit, or supply a reconditioned, used or new one. Our repairs come with a 6-month warranty.

WhatsApp us your car model, year and the fault codes. A photo of the scan tool screen helps.
