Honda Yaw Rate Sensor Malfunction (81-19)
A well-known Honda ABS fault: the yaw rate sensor inside the VSA modulator, and why it brings up so many other codes.
The yaw rate sensor measures how fast the car is turning. Together with the acceleration sensor, it tells the VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist) system whether the car is going where the driver is steering. On many Honda models these sensors are built into the VSA modulator control unit, the ABS unit in the engine bay.
The codes
The scan in the photo above shows how one fault spreads across several systems:
- 81-19 Yaw Rate Sensor (Inside Of Modulator Control Unit) Internal Circuit Malfunction (ABS)
- 81-20 Acceleration Sensor (Inside Of Modulator Control Unit) Internal Circuit Malfunction (ABS)
- 38-11 ABS Solenoid Valve Malfunction (ABS)
- C0063-F0 Yaw Rate Sensor Malfunction and U0415-68 ABS System Malfunction (electric servo brake)
- C0062-F0 Longitudinal Acceleration Sensor Malfunction and U0416-68 VSA System Malfunction (electric parking brake)
The brake, parking brake and other systems log these codes because they rely on the sensor data from the VSA unit. The words “inside of modulator control unit” point to the unit itself, not to a separate sensor you can swap.
What you see on the dashboard
Usually the ABS, VSA and brake warning lights together, often with parking brake or driver assistance warnings as well.
How it is fixed
We read all the codes first, then repair the VSA modulator control unit, or supply a reconditioned, used or new one. Our repairs come with a 6-month warranty.
WhatsApp us your car model, year and the fault codes. A photo of the scan tool screen helps.
